Engineering metrics like cycle time or the number of commits tell us what’s happening, but they don’t always reflect the real developer experience behind the numbers. A team might deliver more pull requests, but does that mean the process is efficient? Or are there hidden challenges that don’t show up in the data but still slow developers down?
To understand the why behind the metrics and review our tools and processes, our team uses open-ended questionnaires. We discuss the findings in meetings and take action to improve our workflow. To help other teams do the same, we’ve compiled a free DevEx Survey template and shared it in our latest article.
At the same time, we recognize our approach isn’t scalable for larger teams, as managing developer feedback can quickly become overwhelming. That's why I'd like to ask:
Does your company gather developer experience feedback? How do they manage to process the results?
I’d really appreciate your opinion!
