How to show past releases on gantt chart / schedule view

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
How can completed (previous) release items be shown in the gantt timeline? (see inset)
This is otherwise a very valuable view we use consistently for showing our feature roadmap internally and externally. It would be useful to show recently-completed items. We can't find a way to include any completed issues (issues with a fix version ending before the date of dislay).
