Customize your video settings to match your goals
When you're using Loom to make videos, it's important to set up your video preferences just right. Customizing settings for each video allows you to tailor the experience based on the video's purpose and audience. In addition to customizing your video settings for individual videos, you can configure default settings that will automatically apply to the video you are editing and all future videos you create. Don’t worry — you can always override your default settings by changing the settings for an individual video!
Customizable video settings include a variety of options, such as:
- Video enhancements, like applying background noise filters, branded players, and selecting video thumbnail styles
- Audience settings, like whether viewers can comment, add emoji reactions, download your video, or view analytics
👉 For example: Marta records a loom detailing a new project timeline for her team. She opts to disable comments and emoji reactions to help her team concentrate on the details and avoid being sidetracked by reactions.
👉 Another example: Diego uses Loom to create educational content and sets his default video settings to automatically filter out background noise, allow comments for viewer interaction, and disable downloads to protect his content. This way, every new video he creates automatically follows these settings, saving him time and ensuring consistency.
To edit your video settings:
- Open a Loom video and click the Settings tab in the right-side panel.
- Browse the settings in the Enhancement and Audience tabs and toggle options on or off based on your preferences for that video.
- To apply default settings, scroll to the bottom of the panel and click Set Defaults. Browse the tabs and toggle options on or off.

Gather viewer insights by requesting an email to view
One video audience setting that can help you gather specific viewer and engagement insights is requesting or requiring viewers to enter their email address in order to access your Loom video. This video setting helps you monitor who is viewing your public videos more accurately. Without this feature turned on, public videos will track people who view your videos without signing into Loom as "Anonymous” viewers. This setting is especially useful in scenarios where video access is open to anyone, but you want to be able to track specific viewers, such as in sales or training. You can configure this setting to:
- Require email: Viewers will be forced to provide a valid email address before watching.
- Ask for email: Viewers will receive a pop-up to add their email before watching but have the option to bypass it.
- No email: Viewers will not need to provide any information to view. This is the default setting.
👉 For example: Alana creates a product demo loom to share with potential clients who typically do not have Loom accounts. By requesting their email addresses, she can gather more specific viewer insights, track engagement, and follow up with personalized messages.

Change your video’s privacy settings
Privacy settings are crucial when sharing sensitive or private information, and sometimes privacy needs change, requiring you to update your video’s permissions. If you later wish to change the privacy settings on one of your videos, you can do this from the Share options on a video within your Library.

Apply a default call-to-action (CTA) button
A call-to-action (CTA) button is an interactive element in your video in the form of a URL linked button that prompts viewers to take a specific action, such as visiting a website, signing up for a newsletter, or filling out a form. You can add CTA buttons to an individual video during editing, but what if all of your videos have the same desired next step for the viewer? If you want all future videos you create to have the same call-to-action, you can set up a default CTA.
👉 For example: Madison works in Sales and frequently creates Loom videos to pitch new product features to potential clients. She sets a default CTA so that all of her videos display a “Schedule a demo” button at the end, which links to her calendar booking page. This encourages potential clients to take the next step, and doesn’t require Madison to add the same button to every video she makes.
