What is a Compass component?
A Compass component is the combined output of a software engineering team, typically tracked in a source control system. Everything in Compass centers around components. A Compass component is different from a Jira component. Several related Compass components together form a website, application, or service. Atlassian Compass provides teams with a centralized platform to manage and track their components, enhancing collaboration and visibility across software engineering efforts. By integrating component ownership and development into a single tool, Compass streamlines workflows and improves the overall efficiency of delivering high-quality applications and services. From here forward, assume a component is a Compass component unless otherwise stated. Each component is owned, developed, and operated by a dedicated team.

- Attributes – ID, name, description, type, owner, etc
- Dependencies – Relationships with other components in the software architecture
- Resources – a source code repository, a Jira project, documentation, and dashboards
- Scores – Measure the health and operational readiness to determine compliance with your organization's best practices
