- Log in as a user
What are Atlassian user accounts?
Atlassian user accounts are an individual’s identity across Atlassian cloud apps and services. They provide a centralized location for managing user information. Each person signs in with a single Atlassian account that they can use across multiple sites, apps, and organizations.
Every Atlassian account includes three core profile details:
- Display name: Appears everywhere the user is mentioned.
- Email address: Can either be a personal email or a work email.
- Public name: Appears in public forums, like Atlassian Community.
An individual with an Atlassian account can also add other information to their account, like job title and department.
An Atlassian account can show up in multiple organizations as a managed account (if that org has claimed the domain), or an external user (if not claimed).
View and edit your Atlassian accounts
Everyone who has an Atlassian account can view and edit parts of their own profile. These details are shared across Atlassian cloud apps.
Depending on the account type and the organization’s settings, users may be able to edit their display name, public name or profile details such as job title, department, organization, location, or timezone.
👇 Click the tabs below to learn what org admins can edit for managed and unmanaged accounts.
As an org admin, you can control some information for managed accounts, and that information may be locked so users can’t edit it themselves. For example, the email address or certain profile fields cannot be editable if they’re synchronized from an identity provider (such as Okta). In those cases, users will see the information but won’t be able to change it themselves.
Log in as a user
Org admins can use the log in as user feature to validate users' access and problems without their username and password. This feature is only available to org admins.
Org admins can't use this feature to:
- Log in as themselves.
- Log in as another org admin.
- Log in as an invited user who hasn’t accessed an app within the organization yet.
- Log in to Jira Service Management portal-only customer accounts.
To log a user in:
- Go to admin.atlassian.com and select your organization.
- Expand Directory from the sidebar then select Users.
- Select the user you need to login as.
- Click View full profile from the user details sidebar.
- Select the More Actions menu (represented by ···) next to one of the apps the user has access to.
- Select Log in as user.
- Select Continue.
The user will receive an email informing them that an org admin logged in as them.
