Access, permissions and security
10 min
Advanced
In this lesson, you'll work through sandbox challenges designed to give you hands-on experience with project access, permissions and security in Atlassian cloud. This is a fundamental area of understanding for the Jira admin, especially in a Cloud environment. These challenges will help reinforce key concepts and prepare you for various kinds of scenario-based questions in the exam.
You will also test your knowledge and assess if you're ready for the exam with these sample questions.
Sandbox challenges
To pass the exam, technical knowledge of Jira features is crucial, but it is not enough. The majority of exam questions are based on scenarios that must be understood, analyzed, and evaluated to find the correct answer that fits the stated constraints.
The following challenges will assist you in exploring scenarios with collaborating with external users and controlling security. They will help to develop your approach and prompt you to investigate different methods and solutions as you prepare for the exam.
Collaborate with external users
So far, your Jira instance has only been used by internal users for internal purposes. Now the instance should be partially opened up to external customers. These are the question you need to be asking yourself when you collaborate with external users.
External customers
How can you grant external customers read-only access to only a few projects? Later, you also want to allow external customers to work on issues. What needs to be updated?
Jira issues
Can you enable them to submit issues to Jira without having user accounts or product access. What are the different methods for them to do so?
Control security
Now that external customers have access to your Jira instance, you need to ensure that security is tightly controlled.
- What levels of security are available within Jira?
- What configurations grant access to public issue tracker projects?
- How can you hide specific issues from external users?
- Must you add specific users or groups only? Or are more dynamic entries available?
- Can you hide issue comments?
- What cannot be hidden on an issue?
- Which permissions control the editing of certain system fields?
- How can you ensure that external users cannot edit certain fields inline but internal users can?
- What permissions do external users need to create dashboards and filters?
- Can you ensure that dashboards and filters are shared with internal users only?
- Can you limit who can view and select users or groups from the user pickers?
- Can you control who can execute bulk operations?
- Is there a difference in configuring access and security settings between company-managed and team-managed projects?
