An introvert here who thrives in peaceful, ordered environments, too. Thanks for sharing these thoughtful practices, @Jenn VelázquezI think these are beneficial ideas for all types of people because they show respect for each person's time and value. In line with your low-focus tip, I work better when I can clear any…

Thanks so much, @Julie d_Antin _Elements_ ! I'm familiar with the elevator story (great example of reframing the problem), but I haven't read the book. I'll check it out! Appreciate the reco. I do like witty in a business book.

Another important point about praise: It should be specific. * Not just a broad brushstroke, generalized praise: "You're doing a great job!" * But specific praise that says one's actions are seen and appreciated: "Your presentation yesterday really helped the team to better understand the project goals. Great job!"

Again, another great discussion topic; thank you, @Christine P. Dela Rosa A couple of thoughts: * False praise - When I was a QA team lead, we had a QA Manager who was not experienced in QA. I trained and managed the team and oversaw their daily activities, as well as their successes and challenges. Each morning the…

What a wonderful way to get to know others in the company, what they do and how you can interact. It really helps to build a more-connected company culture.

Thanks so much for your comment and especially for posting the link to the 5 Whys Workshop. I've shared it on our Teams channel. A great way for training us on how to reframe problems using the 5 Whys. Thanks, @Christine P. Dela Rosa

@Taranjeet Singh - Love that quote! I should've used that for my article. (Copying and saving.) Thanks so much!
-
@Bill Sheboy - Love your "and"! I agree that many are not trained in problem-solving techniques. I was thinking of the 5 Whys as I was writing this. Perhaps the root cause of people rushing into problem solving mode is that they are trained to solve, not to identify first? Very much appreciate your thoughts on this.

Thanks so much for this musing, @Christine P. Dela Rosa To address the third point about knowing who needs to be involved: In our company, we've had a big turnover since 2020. Many of the newer people don't know those who've been here for awhile and aren't familiar with their expertise and what they can contribute. So it's…

Great topic! Personally, I feel our team is less connected than when we were all in the office. In the past two years, much of our work has been offshored so there are fewer people left in the local office. Also, the office space was cut in half (we had a lot of extra, unused space) and was nicely remodeled. Teams that…

I've had speech impediments since I started speaking as a child, so I have to plan what I'm going to say before I speak. It's pretty automatic by this point. As I worked on coping skills, I listened a lot to how people speak. One thing I hear a lot are "crutches" that people use. * They often start a sentence with "I mean"…

@Christine P. Dela Rosa - Love the encouragement to grow the leadership team here. Did you intend for the "More info on that" link to be accessible? I currently get an error message saying I don't have privileges.

Nice graphic, @Christine P. Dela Rosa A couple of thoughts; use as you see fit: * I'd suggest using parallel construction for each title, perhaps frame as CTAs (verb form) * Use brief descriptions for clarity. Infographics tend to be concise. Examples: Define boundaries Understand the scope and limits of each role.…

Wow - This completely resonates with me. In my current role of technical writer, I am rather isolated from my colleagues, lack clear objectives and the team doesn't consider how their work impacts my role. Documentation is required but how the role integrates with the development team and the rest of the organization has…

@Christine P. Dela Rosa - Mindfulness meditation and present moment awareness are also helpful to me. Mindfulness helps me to keep my spirit in a calm, receptive place; present moment awareness helps me to focus on the current task and not ruminate on other issues.

Scenario 1: Outcome doesn't meet expectations Suggestion: Retrospective It can be so disappointing when this happens, despite everyone's best work and best intentions. It can be helpful to perform a retrospective to identify what impacted the outcome and what can be done in the future to produce a better outcome. Scenario…

All good!

@Christine P. Dela Rosa - Just checking: On the second bullet, should it be "sometimes that work does do" or "sometimes that work doesn't do"?
-
An excellent topic for discussion. I think that each of the points could benefit from attention; some points also relate to others. Being isolated can result in lack of role clarity and lack of role clarity can impact job demands. A lot of connection. Thanks for raising awareness about this, @Kelly Pallanti

Many people don't realize that the design of the taxonomy is crucial to how people consume information. Part psychology, part attractiveness, part ease-of-use. How do we make finding easy? How do we not overwhelm? As you said, keep it simple, keep it beautiful. I'd also add keep it organized, keep it thoughtful. The design…

Our professional documentation is not intended to be cartoony and playful. It's meant to be informative, helpful; a professional reference for our clients. I don't find that to be boring and in need of emojis. (For us, it's a moot point, though, since this feature is not available in the legacy editor, which we have to…
-
Are the header and emoji only available in the Fabric editor? I don't see them available in the legacy editor. (We have to use the legacy editor due to the image resizing and image border issues.)
-
Good point, @Ira Chandler . If it doesn't use the legacy editor (with all the functionality for image sizing, borders, etc.), then these won't be of use to my company.
-
Very useful information. Now to share with my colleagues. :-)

I'm with Ben on this. Seeing the most important info all in the header area at a glance was helpful. Now I have to scroll scroll scroll down to see what Fix Version my ticket is in. Not a fan.
