I'm going slightly off-topic but I have two kitchen gadgets I have not seen in any other kitchens - but I wouldn't do without. A manual ice crusher ... and ... A vege peeler with a difference

I have attended a presentation by Colin Ellis in 2018. I remember, * it was interesting and entertaining, * I have notes about from that event (and I know where to find them), * he told an anecdote about something "obvious" about communication - but his example was something that has a different meaning in NZ.

You will just have to wait for a blog post I will be writing this week which has some overlap with this topic. I'll add the link to this thread once it has been published.

What a great initiative! I will be sharing this with my team at TechTime as I have learned resumes should be "living" documents. The information in a resume is more accurate, informative, and rich if it is added to regularly - not just updated when someone is looking for a new opportunity. And for my team, you might want…

I love this article. The format is really helpful to help other people learn from your experience so they do not have to repeat the same mistake to benefit from the same lessons. - Eeek! When I read back my comment it sounds like a teacher commenting on a student's work. In that vein, it is an A+ for you @Irina Sanikovich…

During the day I am drinking water and basic black tea with milk. I might mix it up with white tea, flavoured decaf black teas, or sparkling water once in a while. My preparation last weekend included a trip to the liquor store. Over the next few weeks I have 3 different RTDs to choose from when I need/want an adult…

What a fun thread! Bizarro world name: The story I have been told is Mum had a name picked out for me the whole time she was pregnant. When I was born she said "Hello Kristie Rose" and my Dad responded, "Yuck I hate that name." Nemesis name: When I worked in a call centre I answered "... you are speaking with Kat". I…

This person on LinkedIn sums up what I think about the sound of children in the background when remote workers are on a call. There are exceptions but most of the time a minor interruption or distraction is preferable to having working parents stressed out trying to work and keep children quietly entertained.

Dammit! I just lost The Game.

A photo or photos of your cat and dogs :)

I agree @Scott Theus - especially with @Mandy Ross's mention of a cat walking with the dogs.

Create workday check-ins with your team via instant messenger. These can work well whether everyone is in the same timezone, some of the team is colocated and others are remote, or you all work at different times of the day. These can take many forms like: * a daily scrum (ours went so well today the team is going to trial…

Thanks @Jimmy Seddon It is important we look after our mental well-being. Getting fresh air and exercise are important parts of that. Our pets need these things too!

A good place to start is Using Confluence for Documentation and Knowledge Bases - a free skill builder provided by Atlassian. It is easy to link Confluence pages to Jira tickets and create Jira tickets directly from Confluence one at a time or in a batch from a table.

One night in high school I went to bed and woke up to a normal day. That day I went to classes, walked to and from school, watched TV, lay in bed and blinked. Something wasn't right. My alarm went off. In the time of what felt like a blink, it was morning. Boy was I tired! It felt like I had had no sleep at all. As I got…

It depends on what reporting is needed and if the organisation I am working for allows me to focus on getting the work delivered or prefers me to focus on creating artifacts for managers, customers, and/or a programme office. MS Project can be a helpful tool in isolation but it is very isolated. The only thing I miss from…
