Can I customize the create page (not the fields but the alignment style)?

So let me give the problem statement first. I have an extended create form with lots of fields. But it is becoming a little much for all the users. Because the whole thing just cascades down, users tend to get lost and not properly update all required data.

I have 3 types of fields: functional, non-functional and IT Details.

Is there any way to separate the fields in these categories?

Arek and Mertcan covered the native route: screen tabs in company-managed spaces. As Mertcan noted, a required field on a later tab is easy to miss, and in team-managed spaces tabs aren’t available at all.

If the goal is to guide users through a long form so they don’t get lost, another approach you might consider is Smart Forms for Jira (developed by my team):

* Page breaks: split the form into steps (Functional → Non-functional → IT Details). Users complete one section at a time before moving to the next you can make fields required or hide fields if needed.
* Multi-column layout: get related fields side by side instead of one long column or you can use tables with different inputs inside
* Headings and text blocks or content elements: label each section and add short instructions.
* Conditional logic: show IT Details questions only when they apply.
* Field mapping: answers still land in your Jira fields when the work item is created.
* Design options: Add colors, logo or media content if you need this

It works in both company-managed and team-managed spaces, and any other Jira Project

Yes. In a company-managed space you can split the Create form into tabs, so Functional, Non-functional and IT Details each get their own tab. You need Jira admin rights.

* Find the screen that Create uses: Project settings > Screens (for Jira Software it's under the All work expander). Open the screen scheme for your work type and note which screen is mapped to the Create operation.
* Go to Settings (cog) > Work items > Screens and open that screen.
* Add three tabs (Functional, Non-functional, IT Details) and drag each field onto its tab. A field can appear only once per screen, even across tabs.
* Keep Summary and the other required system fields on the first tab, so people see them right away.
* If other spaces share this screen, copy it first (More actions > Copy) and link the copy in your own screen scheme.

The Create dialog then shows the tabs. Tell users to click through every tab before pressing Create, because a required field on a later tab is easy to miss.

If this is a team-managed space, screen tabs aren't available. Atlassian closed that request as "Won't Do" (

Are you working in a company-managed or team-managed space?

If you’re using a company-managed Jira space, you can keep fields organized in tabs. Go to Jira Settings → Work items → Screens, open your Create screen, and add Functional, Non-functional, and IT Details tabs. Then move the relevant fields into each tab.
