Closed sprint saved with wrong end date (2027 instead of 2026), how to fix?

Hi all, in our team-managed Jira Cloud space, Sprint 29 was closed with the wrong end date. It should have been 10 July 2026, but it was saved as 10 July 2027.

Because of this, Sprint 29 shows across the timeline all the way to July 2027 and covers our active sprint (Sprint 32). Jira doesn’t let us edit dates on a closed sprint, and we’re on the Free plan, so we can’t raise a support ticket.

Is there any way to correct a closed sprint’s end date, or to stop it from showing on the timeline? Thanks.

Reopen Sprint 29 first, because the API won't change the date on a closed sprint. The sprint API page says only the name and goal can be updated there, and changes to other fields are ignored.

In a team-managed space, open the Burnup report or Sprint burndown chart, pick Sprint 29 and use More actions > Reopen sprint. It needs Jira admin or Manage Sprints.

Then fix the end date and complete it again.

If you'd rather use curl while it's reopened, the partial update (POST to the same sprint URL) changes only the endDate you send. The PUT in the example above is a full update, so any field you leave out becomes null.

The doc mentions parallel sprints when another sprint is active, which is the thing to check if Reopen is greyed out. I haven't tested whether the timeline bar clears afterwards, so tell us if it still runs to 2027 :)
