We’re looking forward to hearing more about how you plan to use Automations in Confluence and learning more about what excites you.
 The instructions are simple:
Attend the June 12th session live (or watch the recording at your convenience!)
Come back to this post and share your use cases for automations, tips on what you learned, or one you’re excited to try
That’s it! You’ve earned the badge!

Enjoyed watching the video. I have been playing with automation for a while and enjoy discovering new features as they sneak in.
We've recently started to use Automation on one of our instances and while it's pretty basic, it's definitely a huge time saver - mostly when it comes to auto-creating MM pages and/or adding labels.
Also, as it was mentioned, a really powerful feature is manual trigger in the content manager. Really love it! 😄
For me looking at the time that and administrator could potentially save all our users in the things they are doing manually today and/or the things that they should be doing but aren't. The idea of automating the addition of labels or similar content tagging to aid in organization and discovery is particularly compelling.
Love this intersection of Live Learning ACE Events + Kudos Challenges. During the session I just created the automation for archiving pages older than 2 years. Now I'm looking forward using automation for de-activating inactive user accounts.Â
We use Confluence to pull together status updates that need to show point of time updates for our Trustees and file with the regulator so every 2 weeks we have to update the queries that pull together the information and it would be great to be able to automate these.
I would love to see something on advanced branching. Â
My main use case is to automate our process documentation peer review workflow and next will be our BI report peer review workflow. I'm using automations starting in Confluence that trigger further automations in Jira. When the procedure template is published in Confluence and is ready for peer review, a manual trigger is used to create Jira issues that track the peer review process and then trigger an approval workflow. The automations add comments to the Jira Epic at each step in the process and send emails to individuals or to a Teams channel where needed.
I'm able to get Jira to write comments back to the original Confluence page at the initial stages, which is amazing, but it would be even better if automations could link the Jira Epic to the Confluence page and update the table in the Confluence page with the current Jira ticket status.
Loving the automations and can't wait for more to be added!
I'm working on implementing content management automations. Things like, requesting page owners review/update inactive pages, archiving old pages, and updating page statuses.
we have automated groups creation for jira through confluence
I was on vacation during this Live Learning Session. Will it be offered again?
@Laurie Sciutti we should be doing another one again in a couple months Â
Automation is like the good old MS macros in the beginning of the 90s. Very useful for the business users and always upgrade able :-)
My latest thing to learn is lookup tables. I think I will find these very useful. Just completed a rule that does counts of issues and then updates a field with a score based on the count of the number of issues using the lookupIssues function.Â
Being able to use information in one project to update information in another project is very useful. If a customer reports a bug in our JSM project, when that bug is fixed in our Jira Development project, an Automation sends a message to the JSM Assignee that it was fixed.
I think my biggest learning about Confluence automation is that we now can use Automation for Confluence in tandem with Automation for Jira and visa versa. This is amazing as we can now populate Confluence pages based on Jira tickets or the other way around. The new add with using whiteboards in automation is also a great add. All of the new tricks will be helpful for system of work!
This is great, especially when it comes to automation nad AI
Enjoyable session, automate the world.Â
WhiteBoards + Automation! Looking forward to it!!!
I want to create an automation to notify me when our org chart changes so that I can update Opsgenie teams. Do the automations work across other Atlassian products?
I saw the recording and loved the explanation. I am using confluence automation and love it so much. I recently create an automation to Keep content relevant by automatically adding labels or categories to pages based on specific keywords.
I learned how to set up triggers such as creating a page, or if page is reaching a specific status. An automation action would take place such as send a notification, or maybe adding a label or creating a task. I also learned how to add specific conditions and rules. My typical use case would be for content review and approval for better team collaboration and integrating the confluence pages to Jira for creating tasks.Â
Automating labels and recurring pages will now be easy! Fantastic!
This is useful in my universe for things like meeting notes, sprint ceremonies and the like so I do not need to do create new notes. Gosh lazy me is so efficient and this is an awesome enabler
Automatically creating weekly meeting pages makes me so happy! 😅
In my first project, I utilized automation quite a good deal. I used a combination of automation rules and post-functions to create new issues, re-assign an issue, and move the primary issue through the workflow based on the status of the another issue.
I am excited to try more, such as the automation of meeting notes on confluence where its automatically send Action items and Summary of meeting. I can see my team utilizing this function quite often and will help us get what we need from other teams. Leadership is impressed by our documentation/meeting notes and I am excited to raise this expectation to the next level.
I use automations to do comparisons that aren't supported in regular search, like comparing two dates or checking the length of a text field:
In general I learned that I can do automation in Confluence, which was new to me. Now I have to find some use cases to create & test automations.
The demo from Matt helped me realize that there are some pretty neat use cases I didn't even consider before. Thanks for that @Matt Reiner _K15t_ !
1) Creating automation rules as manual triggers to do the same action for a bunch of pages from the Content manager
2) Add an AI-generated component like page summary to an Automation action (cool!)
3) And so much more!
Â
I have some clients that are using Data Center Confluence - hoping that Automation also becomes available there as well!
Thanks for this very informative video. I have started playing with Confluence automation, mostly to try to help other Atlassian Community users but I still have a lot to learn. Thanks for the headstart!
Nice to watch I had to repeat to understand. I can imagine when Jira saves your mostly used commentsMeetings, your notes. and I see it happening. Why did Matt not become my tertiary Lecture, would have gotten a Distinction in everything....
