How to copy watchers from parent issue to sub-task?

You would need a plugin for it. For example, you could use the Power Scripts ad-on:

watchers = parent.watchers;

Posting for anyone else who finds this thread frustrated that you'd need a paid app to accomplish this - because you absolutely don't.
I managed to get this working using the below automation. Runs every 5 minutes, automatically adds the watchers of the parent task to the child task.
This is excellent. This could also be attached to an “on create event” so you don’t use up your automation quota. You can also copy labels, components, and other values. This even works in the free version now that automation is supported there, however the 100 automation quota will run out very quickly.
