What is the purpose of mentioning the Language in the "Create a New Repository Page"?

I have a few questions about creating a new repository in BitBucket.

1. What is the purpose of mentioning the Language in the "Create a New Repository Page"?

2.What if my repository would contain code in GoLang and HTML/CSS and other frontend frameworks ? In this case should I choose any Language ?

That's for the code highlighting. If your repository contains several languages you can pick a default one, or you can leave it empty. If you wish, you can vote for the Feature request at Support multiple programming languages.
