I want to request a text input when a custom field is updated.

Hi - I have a custom field "Estimated Deadline". This particular field can be updated by people with specific permissions. 

However, I do not want to allow this field to be edited unless a reason is specified. 

 

How do I achieve this?

Hello,

You would need an add-on for it. For example, you can you can use the Power Scripts add-on.

There is a feature, called Live Fields. You can hide, enable, disable fields, set values for fields. Using this feature, you can always check, if the Reason field is not specified, then you throw a error, that the Reason field must be filled.
