Automatically Increment Custom Field on Transition

Question

I have JIRA Cloud, with no add-ons, and I'm trying to automatically increment a counter when a card passes through a specific transition.  I see lots of suggestions using various add-ons, but is there some native way to do this?  If not - which add-ons do I need to be looking into?

Naively it's not possible, since you want to increment the custom field after the workflow transition then you can use "Script runner" for cloud for this purpose. There might be other plugins as well which might be able to do this.
