Issue created, but not visible

Hello,

I have reviewed similar posts, but unfortunately, they do not resolve my problem.

1. I am an Administrator and a project team member

2. Board Settings has a saved filter. When I edit the filter query from Board Settings I see all the stories that I have entered. BUT Directly under the Filter is a message "Some issues in the Saved Filter will not be shown on the board. Link to View unmapped statuses which contain these issues. Selecting the link brings me to active sprint board which does not have anything as I do not have an active sprint yet.

3. I can create an issue/story from the backlog or Issues and filters section. I even assign the sprint to the story.

4. When viewing the Backlog, none of the stories appear in the assigned sprints. I can only see the stories when selecting the Issues and Filters.

So...my 2 questions:

1. How can I move the stories found under Issues and filters to the backlog?

2. How can I stop this from happening to new stories that are entered?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

@Franklin Hu, welcome to the community. First check to verify that all statuses are mapped to columns - Board > Board Settings > Columns and look to the right and ensure no statuses are in the unmapped area unless that is desired.

New stories should have a status that maps to the Backlog.

Not sure if this is applicable to you, but I had a similar situation getting that error message you are seeing. Somebody had created a custom field and the backlog filter was looking for a value on that custom field. I would try simplifying your filter until (hopefully) your issues show up.

Hi, I would suggest checking the filter share section in 'configure board'-> General . If the filter is not shared with the appropriate groups and is marked private, it might not appear on the board.

Thanks for your help. I looked into the Backlog filter and 3 (Type, Status, Assignee) of the 4 filters are set to All and the 4th is set to my project.

I will try playing around some more to see.

Thanks for the welcome! I did have an added custom column, but not status. Nonetheless, I removed the custom column just to test and , unfortunately, all stories only can be seen in the Issues and filters section and not the Backlog.

What is interesting, is if I create a story in the Backlog area and assign it to a Sprint, I see in the sprint area, but not within the specific boxed area (see screenshot below). If I create another story in the Backlog area, it is filled with the story I just added. If I modify the story to create a new story, it overwrites the previous story that appears in the sprint area. If I modify the story in the sprint area, then it moves the story off the Backlog like all the others.

i'm getting confused here so let me back up....

The "Backlog" screen has two sections: Sprint(s) and Backlog. If there is an active sprint the Sprints area will have the active at the top of the screen and any defined future sprints below and below that the 'true' backlog. Any story you create initially "without" designating a Sprint should show in the Backlog unless your board has a filter that would otherwise exclude it.

In the image above I do not see the full Backlog screen. Here is an example of my screen.

Now if I create an issue via the "+ Create issue" under the SCRUM Sprint 7 it will show there. Similarly if I create one under the Backlog using the "+ Create issue" in that section it will show there.

If you are doing this and issue are not showing when the page is refreshed then you have something going on w/ your board filter or you are dealing w/ a bug. Please check and share your boards filter.

Thanks for getting back to quickly.

So if I create a story within the Sprint area, it disappears from the area and the Backlog area remains clear.

If I create a story in the Backlog area and use the drop down to switch from Backlog to Sprint X. The story appears within the Sprint, but does not seem "saved" as I had mentioned.

Here is what the Board Settings -> General filter looks like:

And In case you were wondering what selecting the "View unmapped statuses which contain these issues."

Hi Franklin, the screenshot you shared doesn't really show if it was shared with the groups. I also notice, there is no 'edit filter shares' option probably because you don't have the permissions. I would suggest, you check with the JIRA admin to make sure the filter shares are applied accordingly.

Yes, I was able to contact my admin and eventually get this resolved.

In our Jira instance (8.22.3) the board filter contained one component. For boards with short component names, the component was automatically connected on creation through the board. On boards with longer component names, this was not the case and the issue was not connected to the board filter.

I hope this helps someone.
