Is it possible to create a new project role in jira only if you dont use confluence??

I need to create a new project role for my project in JIRA. Is a feasible to do so?? Or if i could change the name of the existing roles??

You can ceate a new project role but it will be visible in all projects. Roles are global for the whole Jira. If you change the name of an existing role, then the name of the role will change in all projects.
