Hi Team
We are following and using most of atlassian tools. All tools are situated on virtual machines.
Production servers are hosted at the Finland, which raises some challenges due to the geographical distance to, for example India, where the majority of the users are located. Lately, performance of the servers does not seem be the actual issue, but instead, it’s the network performance and high latency that are causing poor usability.
It is to be decided where the new servers will be located; should we continue using in Finland, set up the new servers in AW?
Each option has its pros and cons, for example:
- If we set up the services to the virtual servers we don’t have to make any network related changes, but again, usability from remote locations (like India) will be affected.
- If we set up the services to AWS, usability in remote locations might improve, but we will be dependent on the functionality of the VPN tunnels from hub sites towards AWS and will also create a large amount of administrative overhead reconfiguring the network topology.
- If we set up the services somewhere else, it needs to be reviewed whether the location corresponds to our strategy and will be suitable for long-time use etc.
What do you suggest here. We should move on AWS or improve the configurations of current servers. Where do you think performance is much much better?
Regards
Shivani
