[Version 4.0] How can I set the number of Ancestors to Show in Breadcrumbs again?

Or at least some work around since this option is not available anymore (meh!). I did take a look into the breadcrumbs.vm but it isn't quite self explanatory to me.

I want to disable the trail from adding a new row under the main navigation. In my case it breakes my layout.

Or there is a way to shorten the name entries somehow? Or something via CSS maybe?

K, I have found at least one solution to prevent the layout break.

#breadcrumbs  {

text-overflow:clip;
white-space:nowrap;
overflow:hidden; 
max-width:690px;

}

A proper solution based on setting the ancestors is still welcome
