How is Search Integrated between Atlassian OnDemand and Google Apps?

I would like to understand how search is integrated between Atlassian OnDemand (with Confluence) and Google Apps. I understand that you can embed Google Docs and such in Confluence - when you search in Confluence, will it also search the Google Docs text?

Likewise, if you are in Google, if you do a search (which should search across Google Docs, Sites, Google Mail, etc, will content in Confluence also be searched?

We are moving our hosted Confluence environment to the Cloud via Atlassian OnDemand, but would like to understand the search capabilities better...

The plugins available with the on-demand version are described here:https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/AOD/Atlassian+OnDemand+Plugin+Policy

The GoogleDocs plugin is not amongst them. We do use this plugin within our on-premise installation of Confluence. This allows content from GoogleDocs to be embedded dynamically within a Confluence page, but that content is not indexed by the Confluence search engine. A crude work-around is to choose the page titles carefully to indicate the type of contrnt being pulled in, adding relevant labels and also HTML comments (standard macro i think) with relevant keywords for the indexer to pick up.

There's no common search in the other direction either, i.e. when in Google find content in Confluence.

Might be worth contacting AppFusions directly about the possibility of implementing what you've described.

Thanks very much for your answer - that helps regarding the search piece...I do have a follow-up question though...I thought Google Apps integration came with Atlassian OnDemand? And that automatically allowed you to attach or add Google Docs to wiki pages? Is that incorrect? I didn't realize you needed a third-party plug-in?

Hi Lori,

Looks like the link I shared in my previous post needs updating with details of the GoogleDocs plugin - from the info you shared it would seem that this IS available in the on-demand offering, but only to those customers who have paid for its use. It's definitely functionality that comes from the AppFusions GoogleDocs plugin rather than standard Confluence.
