Version Panel totals not adding up

We are starting our first sprint in a new project. We are using both Epics and Versions. There are 61 Stories associated with the version Analytics V1 with a total of 440 story points. The Version Report shows this information acurately (displaying all 61 stories). From the Plan view, the Version Panel displays that there are 40 issues in the Version for a total of 260 story points. Can anyone tell me how the Version Panel calculates its totals and why they do not match the Version Report?

I just asked the same question today. I can't figure out how the version panel is doing its math. Can someone point us in the direction of the documentation that clearly states how it works?
