I am returning to IT after 25 years .Would like to start with IT support .Can anyone advise me a best course to learn JIRA fundamentals .
Thanks in advance .
Hi @Numitha Erambalur,
Welcome back to the IT world! π
I'd recommend starting with Atlassian's learning paths. Here are a few that could be useful:
I'd start with Jira fundamentals and then move on to Jira Service Management, as it's especially relevant to IT support.
Good luck with your learning journey! π
https://community.atlassian.com/learning/catalog is the atlassian libraries for all learning paths/courses.
You use the nav bar on the left side to cherry pick what your in the mood for.
An another path is to look at the certification tracks - ACA (Super User/Manager Level) - and ACP (Admin level/Org Admin/Platform Owner) - courses are free but the Certifications cost money (optional however).
There are some ACH's (Entry/Introduction) - but there aren't any for Jira as of yet.
Jira is a massive application with many facets - pick a subject that interests you and go from there would be my recommendation.
If you are in the ITSM/Servicing world - you may want to look more closely at Jira Service Management instead.
Welcome to the community! Itβs great to hear you're returning to IT. You're interested in IT support, I'd recommend starting with these free Atlassian courses:
I'd recommend focusing especially on Jira Service Management, because it's a great fit for IT helpdesk and service desk roles.
You can also create a free Jira Service Management site to practice what you've learned.
Good luck with your return to IT!

Hi @Numitha Erambalur Welcome back to the IT industry! :) Starting with an IT Support / Service Desk role is a good way to refresh your knowledge and get back into the field.
I would as well recommend starting with free Atlassian Learning courses (formerly Atlassian University), which offers official learning resources for Jira fundamentals and other tools..
Since your goal is IT Support, I would particularly focus on Jira Service Management, including ticket management, incident management, service requests, priorities, workflows, SLAs, queues and escalations. It is also worth exploring the practical side of Jira by setting up a sample project and practising how to create, assign, track and resolve support tickets.
However, I wouldn't focus exclusively on Atlassian tools. For an IT Support / Service Desk position, it's equally important to refresh your knowledge of Windows 10/11 troubleshooting, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, basic networking (TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP), and remote support tools. I would also recommend learning the fundamentals of ITIL 4, particularly Incident Management, Problem Management and Change Enablement, as these concepts are widely used in IT Service Management.
For additional learning, Microsoft Learn (https://learn.microsoft.com/) is an excellent free resource, while and YouTube offer useful Jira tutorials. You can also explore ITIL certification resources at https://www.peoplecert.org/.
My advice would be to combine structured learning with hands-on practice. You don't need to become a Jira administrator straight away; understanding how Jira Service Management supports everyday IT operations is a much more relevant starting point.
Take it step by step, build your confidence and don't let the career break discourage you. Good luck!
Welcome back to IT! Jira is a good place to start.
I really liked this learning path https://community.atlassian.com/learning/hub/all-learning-paths/path/get-the-most-out-of-jira
Have fun and enjoy :)
