Plenty of checklist steps are about a file. "Reproduce the bug" needs the screenshot of what broke. "Approve the contract" needs the contract. "Review the design" needs the mockup. But the file usually lands on the Jira work item description or in a comment, a step away from the item it actually belongs to.
The latest release of Checklists for Jira (Templates & Automation) brings you exactly that: you can now attach files and screenshots to checklist items, so the file finally sits on the step it belongs to.
It works just like adding an image anywhere in Jira or Confluence, so there’s nothing new to learn. You can paste a screenshot straight onto the item with Cmd+V / Ctrl+V, drag a file directly onto the step, or type /image and pick the file from your computer. No matter how you add it, the attachment stays on the step itself and travels with the checklist wherever the work item goes.
A few cases where attachments in a checklist come in handy:
- QA. Run your test cases as checklist items and attach the screenshot or log right on the check that failed, so the result sits with the step instead of scattered across comments.
- Design reviews. Keep the mockup on the review step, so reviewers know exactly which version they signed off on.
- Support (JSM). When working on a request, you can attach the screenshot the customer sent or the error you reproduced to the checklist step it belongs to.
