For some reason "my Jira project doesn´t allow me to change things because I´m not the administrator

Question

Hi all, how are you?

I have a Jira project, created by me, which for some reason doesn't allow me to change things like springs because I'm not the administrator, some time ago I added a member to the project but when I'm in the Users config I appear as Organization administrator and applications administrator.

What can I do?

Thanks in advance for the help

Hi @Valery Ramirez ,

Organization administration, Jira administration, and sprint management involve different permissions, so the admin roles shown in user management don’t tell us the whole picture.

If you’re using Jira Cloud:

* Company-managed project: Check Project settings → Permissions for Manage sprints. This permission controls creating, starting, completing, and changing sprint dates or goals. If the board’s filter includes multiple projects, permissions in those other projects can also affect sprint actions.
* Team-managed project: Check your role under Project settings → Access. Both the default Member and Administrator roles can manage sprints, so project administrator access isn’t necessarily required.

Depending on your Jira interface, “Project settings” may appear as “Space settings.”

Could you confirm whether you’re using Jira Cloud or Data Center, which project type you have, and exactly what you’re trying to change? Are you trying to create, edit, start, or complete a sprint? What exact error message appears?

Hi @Valery Ramirez,

Even if you're an Organization Admin or App Admin, it's worth checking whether you have the necessary permissions within the Jira space itself.

A couple of things I'd suggest checking:

* Navigate to Space settings → People (company-managed) or Access (team-managed; I think it's called this in team-managed 👀) and verify that you have the Administrator role.
* If you're specifically having trouble managing sprints, check whether you have the Manage sprints permission, as this is separate from general space administration.

You could also try using Permission Helper > more on that here: Use the Jira Admin Helper 📚

Also, could you confirm whether you're using a team-managed or company-managed space, and what exactly happens when you try to make changes? Do you receive a specific error message?

That should help us narrow down the issue! 🙂

Cheers,

Tobi
