How a printed instruction can open the current full page
You can put a QR code on the product as a label, with the words "Scan me for instructions." A scan opens the page that explains how to use the product. You keep fewer printed copies of the SOP, and when the process is updated, the next scan opens the current steps, so people are less likely to follow an old one.
What is a printed SOP
The instructions live in Confluence, but the copy next to the product is often paper. You print the SOP and leave it with the product, on the line, or in the lab. That sheet stays as it was on the day you printed it, and it doesn't change when you update the page. The person using the product has the paper in front of them, and no quick way to open the full instructions.
Why is a printed SOP a risk
People follow the copy they can hold. If you change a step and the old sheet is still with the product, they can carry out a step you have already changed. Each update also means collecting the old printouts and putting out new ones. When an auditor asks which revision was in use, the paper and the page can tell two different stories.
How to add a QR label
Put the instruction in Confluence, then add a code people can scan from the paper. QC Documents adds the QC - Page QR Code macro to the page. A scan of that code opens the Confluence page, so the person with the printout sees the page as it is now: the current revision and the full instruction.
- Open the work instruction page.
- Click Edit.
- On the page, type
/page qr. - Choose QC - Page QR Code.
- Publish the page, then print it.
The printed code can also show the document ID, the page title, the QC revision value, and the expiration date. The document ID comes from your Document Registries, the revision value is the one you set under Revisions in QC Documents - Page Overview, and the expiration date is the one you set under Settings on that same screen. The revision value on the paper gives the person a number they can compare with the page they just opened.
If you want a copy of the QR code to share, or you want to see how many times people have scanned it, go to More actions, then Apps, then QC Documents - Page Overview, and open the QR tab.
