Hi Community! 👋
You can now see your goal hierarchy when you group your Jira plan’s timeline by goals. Start with your highest-level objectives, then expand them to explore child goals and connected work without leaving your plan.
New to Atlassian Goals?
Atlassian Goals is an app for tracking shared objectives and connecting day-to-day work to the outcomes your teams want to achieve. You can organise goals into a hierarchy, with child goals contributing to broader organisational objectives.
If you already use Group by → Goals, your timeline now reflects the parent–child relationships defined in your goals.
🎯 See how work supports your wider objectives
During a planning review, you may want to start with an overall objective and then look at the work contributing to it.
With this update, you can:
- See your highest-level goals as the starting point in your timeline.
- Expand parent goals to reveal child goals and connected work.
- Follow the same goal structure you’ve already defined.
For example, your organisation might have a goal to Improve the customer experience, with child goals to Simplify onboarding and Improve reliability. Expand the overall goal to see those child goals, then explore the work connected to each. This gives your planning conversation a clear path from the broader objective to the delivery detail.
🔗 Connect your work to goals
You can view and set goals on work items directly in Jira Plans. Add the Goals field to your timeline to see which objectives your work supports and update those associations as you plan.
🚀 Try it in your plan
- Open your plan in Jira.
- Select the Timeline view.
- Open Group by and choose Goals.
- Select the arrow beside a top-level goal to explore its child goals and connected work.
