Taking an issue from one space and aligning it to another

In our company managed software I have spaces created for each of our marketing teams, 4. I would like to adjust and permanently relocate 1 work item/issue to another space. Don't want the historical context to disappear but need it to show under another space/team, their board, workflow, etc.

Is it as simple as editing it under work type schemes? Or?

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

To make the example issue Digital Signage permanently available under the Creative space when someone clicks + Create, align it to their workflow, and remove it from Comms, you will need to update the project's Issue Type Scheme and Workflow Scheme.

Here is the exact setup for Company-Managed Jira projects:

Step 1: Add "Digital Signage" to the Creative Space's Issue Type Scheme

In Jira, click the Settings gear (⚙️) in the top right —> Issues.
In the left sidebar, click —> Issue type schemes.
Find the scheme assigned to your Creative space and click Edit.
In the editor:
- Drag Digital Signage from the Available Issue Types column on the right into the Issue Types for Current Scheme column on the left.
- (Optional) Set the default issue type order if you want it near the top.
Click Save.

Step 2: Remove "Digital Signage" from the Comms Space (To prevent future use there)

On the same Issue type schemes page, find the scheme assigned to the Comms space and click Edit.
Drag Digital Signage out of the left column back to the Available Issue Types column on the right.
Click Save.
(Note: Because you already moved the existing Comms issues to Creative, Jira will let you save without asking to migrate lingering issues).

Step 3: Assign the Creative Team's workflow to "Digital Signage"

To ensure new Digital Signage issues follow the Creative team's workflow and statuses:

Go to Settings (⚙️) > Issues > Workflow schemes.
Locate the scheme assigned to the Creative space and click Edit.
Click Add Workflow > Add Existing.
Select the Creative team's active workflow and click Next.
Check the box for Digital Signage to map it to this workflow.
Click Finish, then click Publish to save the changes.

Step 4: Confirm board and field visibility

Board: If the Creative board uses the standard filter (project = "Creative Space Name"), all new Digital Signage issues will automatically appear on their board in the column corresponding to their initial workflow status (e.g., To Do or Backlog).
Screens / Fields: If Creative uses custom fields or specific screen schemes, go to Settings (⚙️) > Issues > Issue type screen schemes, edit the Creative scheme, and ensure Digital Signage is mapped to the Creative team's Screen Scheme.

If you have the Move Issues permission in your source project and Create Issues permission in your destination project, you can move the item(s).

Open the Jira issue you want to move.
Click the More actions button (•••) in the top-right corner.
Select Move from the dropdown menu.
Choose your destination: Select the target project and the new issue type, then click Next.
Map fields and statuses: If the destination project has different workflows or required custom fields, Jira will prompt you to map old values to new ones.
Review your changes and click Move to confirm

If you want the issue to permanently belong to another team/project while keeping its history, you generally want to move the issue, not change the work type scheme.

Open the issue → ••• More actions → Move and select the destination project. Jira will walk you through any changes needed for the issue type, status, fields, or other project-specific configuration.

The existing issue history, comments, attachments, and other context should remain with the issue after the move.

Before doing it, check the destination project's workflow and issue-type configuration, because the current status or fields may not exist there and Jira may ask you to map them.

If you're doing this across multiple teams or have more complex Jira configurations, Jira implementation services can also help with project and workflow configuration.

I want the other space to "own" all future issues. Example if helpful:

Comms team/space has a "digital signage" issue. It now needs to 'belong' to Creative team/space. I don't want to move a digital signage issue once. I want "digital signage" all future issues to be in the Creative space, aligned to their workflow, show on their board and be a selection option under Creative space when +create is used
