I have an automation where work items inherit due date from parent work items when the parent work item due date is changed. How can I alert the user if they set a work item due date thats is later than parent work item's due date?
Hi @Adam Bang !
Pop out is not doable. What you can do is to create automation rule that will notify user/editor via comment/email/slack message/teams message.

Seba
Hi Adam, building on Seba's answer: a true pop-up isn't possible, but you can warn the person within seconds of saving.
Trigger: Field value changed, field Due date.
Condition: Work item fields condition, Parent is not empty.
Condition: Advanced compare condition, first value {{issue.duedate.isAfter(issue.parent.duedate)}}, condition equals, second value true.
Action: Add comment, or Send email to the Initiator, with something like: Due date {{issue.duedate.jiraDate}} is later than the parent's due date {{issue.parent.duedate.jiraDate}}. Please check.
A comment that mentions [~accountid:{{initiator.accountId}}] gets them a notification right away.
Your inheritance rule sets the child date equal to the parent's, so isAfter returns false for those updates and they won't trigger a false warning. Test it on one work item first and check the audit log if nothing fires.
