Jira Cloud can't archive components. JRACLOUD-10507 has been open since 2006 with more than 1,200 votes, and the usual workarounds are renaming a component to "zz_old" or deleting it and losing the history.
I built Component Archiver to do this properly:
- Archive a component with a reason and a successor. It is marked [Archived] and stays on existing work items, so reports and filters still add up.
- Block new use: an optional workflow validator rejects it at Create, and an automatic guard removes it if it is set anyway and sets the successor, with a comment.
- Clean up in bulk: see which components have no open work and haven't been used for months, and move work items to a successor without notification emails.
- Restore any time, including the original name and description.
It's a Forge app that runs on Atlassian: no egress, no external services, nothing stored outside your Jira site. Screenshots below.
Disclosure: I'm the developer. The app is free for up to 10 users and paid above that.
