Australian Financial Year (1 July to 30 June) settings in a bar graph

Question

In Jira Dashboard, I am trying to locate a start and end dates when creating a bar graph to show the quarterly report dates for the Australian financial year.

Commencing on the 1 July 2026 and ending on the 30 June 2027.

This would reflect the number of ticket requests raised by Jira customers.

Unfortunately, I can only set this to reflect the last 365 days, and the x axis headings do not pick up the correct quarters.

As you can see below, the graph shows five (5) quarters for a calendar year (in Australia) instead of Q1 starting on 1 July 2026 and Q4 ending on 30 June 2027.

Is there capability to create this in Jira Dashboard or the capacity to create this as a new feature. I feel this would assist universal users to allow for the flexibility to change quarterly period settings using a start and end date function. Managers would then have a clear oversight on reporting periods and outcomes.

Hi Nina, one native workaround that gets you true July to June quarters without an app is to define the quarters in JQL rather than in the gadget. Create four saved filters, one per financial-year quarter, for example: project = ABC AND created >= "2026-07-01" AND created < "2026-10-01" for Q1, then Oct to Dec for Q2, Jan to Mar for Q3, and Apr to Jun for Q4. Add a Filter Results gadget for each to the dashboard; the gadget title can be "FY27 Q1" and so on, and each shows the total count of requests for that quarter. If you need it as an actual bar chart, save a fifth filter for the whole year (created >= "2026-07-01" AND created < "2027-07-01") and pull it into Google Sheets with Atlassian's free Jira Cloud for Sheets add-on. A simple formula that maps the created month to FY quarter gives you the chart, and you can set it to refresh on a schedule. It does mean updating the dates once a year, but it stays accurate to your reporting periods. Worth voting on the gadget feature request as well, since fiscal quarter support comes up a lot.

Hi Nina, Ajay is right that the built-in gadgets only do calendar quarters or rolling windows. If you'd like to stay native, one workaround is to stamp each request with its financial quarter and chart that value instead of the date.

Create an automation rule on Work item created with an If/else block. Use smart values conditions on {{issue.created.monthOfYear}}: months 7 to 9 add the label FYQ1, 10 to 12 add FYQ2, 1 to 3 add FYQ3, and 4 to 6 add FYQ4. To backfill existing tickets, copy the rule with a Scheduled trigger and JQL such as project = ABC AND created >= "2026-07-01", run it once, then disable it.

For the dashboard, save a filter like project = ABC AND created >= "2026-07-01" AND created < "2027-07-01" and add an Issue Statistics gadget on it with Statistic Type set to Labels. You get one row per quarter with its count, and each July you only update the dates in the filter.

If your team already uses labels a lot, a single-select custom field called FY Quarter works the same way and stays tidier.

As Ajay explained, this gadget has some limitations: it cannot display a fixed time window, only a rolling one.

If you’re open to using an app from the Atlassian Marketplace, you can easily achieve this with the Pivot Table & Pivot Chart gadget available in our Great Gadgets app.

To get this done:

* install Great Gadgets (in not already installed)
* add the Pivot Table & Pivot Chart gadget to your dashboard
* configure it like this:* a filter or JQL that returns issue created within the quarter
* Statistic by Created field and Count
* Output as Stacked Column Chart (or a different chart type)

* And on its More Settings tab, configure the format of the Created field to "Q yyyy"

With this gadget you can split the data by other field(s) such as Issue Type, Request type, Organization, Priority, etc, for more detailed stats and display data in many other ways such as tables, heatmap tables, or other chart types.
