reducing the size of repository

Dear Support

Can you remove from my repo House the folder _important\DIGITALNI DEL - CD ?

Since I'm over 1 GB, I cannot do it myself since when I delete folder from local repo and try to commit I get the error "This workspace is over the 1 GB size limit. Reduce the size of your workspace or upgrade to a Standard or Premium plan to increase the size limit."

I'm not sure if that will reduce the size below 1 GB. Problem is that now I cannot clean my own repo since I cannot commit, strange design, I would say...

Welcome to the community.

I've triggered GC on the affected repository, and your workspace total size has been reduced to below 1 GB. So you should be able to make changes to reduce the repository size further.

Thank you. Can you run GC 1 more time, since I delete a lot of files and on Bitbucket page the size didn't decrease.

I've triggered a GC on the repository, and the size did come down a little, but there's still more to reduce.

Worth noting: deleting files through the UI on its own doesn't shrink the repository much, since the file's history remains in the Git objects even after the file is removed from the current view. To actually reduce the size, you'll need to remove those large files from the repository's history (or move them to Git LFS if they need to stay).

I check all documentation how to reduce repo size, but that can work only if large file was in last commit, otherwise I loose all commits after that, right? What if I have large file added 2 years ago? How to remove it from the history?

I would appreciate any tip on the matter.
