How can I (permanently) group multiple projects for JQL queries?

Question

As business unit we have more than a dozen active JIRA projects. Our projects reside on one JIRA instance with many others. Most of us manage a few stored queries with "project IN (...)". On adding a new project we not only have to make the same settings but also to update all queries without forgetting one.

Can I group multiple projects for JQL queries (and may be for other purposes) in a way like e. g. user groups? I would like to express something like "all issues belonging to a project of group XY". So we would only add a new project to the matching groups. The queries wouldn't need a change.

Is there something like the above? Would you like to see it in JIRA?

You could also use Project ID just in case someone renames the project!

If you are using project category for something else, save the JQL snippet as a filter and use that filter in your other queries.

filter in ...

To add a new project, you will only have to change the saved filter.

Hi Lars,

You can use project in (AX,BX,CX) and save this JQL and add it to dashboard or you can use project category as suggested by Gabrielle
