Extra costs for linking BitBucket to Atlassian/ Jira?

We are being forced to link BitBucket to Atlassion, which we do not mind as long as this does not mean that there are extra costs involved in this action.

Specifically, we do not want all our Jira users to also become BitBucket licences/users, as this is unnecessary.

We hope to hear whether we can go ahead with linking without being charged more?

Who's forcing you to link Bitbucket and Jira?

Perhaps this is what you are referring to? Unified user management is generally available for new Bitbucket Cloud workspaces! - Work Life by Atlassian

This is about centralizing user management in the same places as Jira and Confluence users were already managed (basically admin.atlassian.com)

Bitbucket licenses remain separate from Jira. It's not even about linking Jira and Bitbucket with an application link. Just centralized user management.

To be specific: Atlassian is forcing us to link our BitBucket workspace to our Atlassian organization, through the following message:

"Link your BitBucket workspace to your Atlassian organization

As we announced in September Community Post, Bitbucket is moving to Atlassian's new billing system, and the legacy billing platform will be retired. To ensure uninterrupted access and a seamless transition, all Bitbucket workspaces must be linked to an Atlassian organization by March 15, 2026."

This is not the same as my question, however, we want to be sure that we are in no way forced by an indirect route to therefore increase our licences with BitBucket.

As long as this is merely linking tools together to exchange information in a better way that is fine ofcourse. It is just a control question.

I can confirm this is not about aligning Jira licenses with Bitbucket.

The subscriptions remain separate.

Hi Charlie, I understand that, however, linking our BitBucket workspace(s) to our Atlassian organization may have implications in the sense that we require some form of extra licences, either due to the fact that we may need extra licences in BitBucket, Atlassian, or Jira.
