Repository size exceeds limit

Hello everyone,

Our repository has exceeded the 4GB limit on Bitbucket, and as a result, we are currently blocked.

Three weeks ago, we used the BFG tool to reduce the repository size. Locally, the repository is now only 377 MiB. Interestingly, when we clone the project as a fresh repository, it also shows a size of 377 MiB so we don’t understand why Bitbucket still considers it over 4GB.

Could someone please advise what we might be missing or how we can resolve this issue?

Hi Jérémy and welcome to the community!

If you rewrite history in a repo and push to Bitbucket, a garbage collection needs to run on the remote repo to remove the old dangling commits. There is a git gc that runs automatically on every push, but with different parameters depending on many different conditions.

If the automated git gc doesn't clean up your repo, you can always create a question in community and ask that we run it. Since your workspace is on a paid billing plan, you can also create a ticket with the support team via https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/.

I ran a git gc on the repo of yours that had a size of 4 GB, and the repo's size has been reduced.

Does it look ok now on your end?
