When re-running a pipeline, the Pipeline Variables are reset to their default values?

When I run a pipeline that has Pipeline variables defined, and run with a custom value, the value is used in the pipe, and output to the console: 

 

Pipeline variables: SPEC_FILES_OVERRIDE: MyPage/MyPage.file

 

But if the pipline fails or is stopped, and I choose to re-run it, the variables are reset to their default variables? 

 

Pipeline variables: SPEC_FILES_OVERRIDE: 

 

How can I prevent this, I would of course like to re-run the pipeline with the variables supplied when it was started.
