Unable to see hierarchy in JIRA SOFTWARE

JiraLearner_gbhy2z

Hi everyone, I am unable to see Issue Type Hierarchy on JIRA

I have added an INITIATIVE issue type, and wanted to link an EPIC under the INITIATIVE or under an issue Type called PROJECT

It would be either

INITIATIVE > PROJECT > EPIC > STORY > TASK > SUB TASK or

INITIATIVE > EPIC >STORY > TASK > SUB TASK

But i do not see the following:

In the left column, go to Issue type hierarchy.

Thanks,

Hi JiraLearner,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

In order to set up the hierarchy you have to go to either Settings > Products > Hierarchy configurations or Plans > Settings > Hierarchy configurations. Both of these paths will take you to the same page were you can set the hierarchy.

Please note that you can only configure the hierarchy from the epic level and up, you cannot change it on the standard level where stories and tasks live.

Hi @JiraLearner

Welcome to the community!

Please note that you must have the Jira administrator permission role in order to make these changes.

To view the issue type hierarchy settings:

Select Setting > Issues.
In the left column, go to Issue type hierarchy.

Best regards

Sam

I am using JIRA SOFTWARE, the format is a bit different. I was working on a previous project using cloud, which is very straight forward to find information.

I was able to find on JIRA Software, thanks

@Mikael Sandberg I was able to find on Jira Software, and hierarchy looks correct. Do you have any recommendation in terms of Add ons to create reports and integration with Confluence Page ?

Mikael Sandberg

I know JXL can show you the structure and we use that for reporting. Not sure about integration with Confluence besides Analytics, which you get access to if you are on an Enterprise plan, which can be used in Confluence using smart links.

Hi @JiraLearner this is Wilson from Upscale. I understand your need to establish an issue type, specifically linking – [initiative > project > epic > story > task > subtask]

Hierarchy for Jira is a powerful design to visually represent and manage your project's hierarchy. Here's how you can use it to achieve your desire structure:

1. Create Issue Types: Ensure you have created the necessary issue (Initiative, Project, etc) within your project

2. Link issues: Use issue-linking feature to quickly establish the desire hierarchical relationship between your issue types.

3. Visualise Hierarchy: Hierarchy for Jira will immediately display your custom hierarchy in a clear visual representations, making it easy to understand the relationship between them.
