When many users logon they are immediately faced with a 500 error message. If the users refresh the 500 will go away and everything appears fine until the next time the logon and sometimes they get the 500 message and other times they do not. What logs should I be looking at? How do I troubleshoot this??
I would look at ${JIRA_HOME}/log/atlassian-jira.log
If Jira was installed using the automated Windows or Linux installers, the default location of the Jira home directory is: C:\Program Files\Atlassian\Application Data\JIRA (on Windows) or /var/atlassian/application-data/JIRA (on Linux) ref:

At the Atlassian-Jira.log file, find the below keywords
