Question

How to migrate project zoho to jira

Mary from Planyway · Answer

Hi @Anubrata Koley

It's Mary from Planyway for Jira

Migrating a project from Zoho to Jira involves several steps, primarily focused on exporting your data from Zoho and then importing it into Jira. Here's a general guide on how to do this:

1. Plan Your Migration

* Assess Your Data: Understand what data needs to be migrated (e.g., projects, issues, comments, attachments, users).
* Check Compatibility: Ensure the data fields in Zoho match up with what's available or customizable in Jira.
* Understand Limitations: Not all data might migrate cleanly due to differences in features between Zoho and Jira.

2. Prepare Your Jira Instance

* Set Up Your Project: Create a new project in Jira or decide where the imported data will go if integrating with an existing project.
* Customize Fields and Workflows: Ensure Jira's configurations match the needs of your project, mirroring the setup you had in Zoho as closely as possible.

3. Export Data from Zoho

* Issues and Projects: Look for an export option in Zoho Projects to export your data. This might be in the form of CSV files or other formats.
* Attachments and Other Files: Ensure you also export any attachments or additional files associated with your projects and issues.

4. Prepare the Data for Jira

* Format Your Data: You may need to adjust the format of your exported data to match Jira's import requirements. Jira typically supports CSV imports, so you might need to convert your data into CSV format.
* Map Fields: Ensure that the columns in your CSV files correctly map to the fields in Jira. This may involve renaming column headers to match Jira's field names or modifying data to fit Jira's expected formats.

5. Import Data into Jira

* Use Jira's Import Tools: Jira provides a CSV Importer that can be used to import issues into your project. Access this through Settings > System > External System Import and select the CSV option.
* Test Import: It's a good idea to test the import process with a small subset of your data first to ensure everything is mapped and imported correctly.
* Perform the Import: Once you're satisfied with the test, proceed with importing all your data.

6. Post-Import Checklist

* Verify Data: After importing, thoroughly check your projects and issues in Jira to ensure everything has been migrated correctly.
* Configure Permissions and Notifications: Adjust any user permissions and notification settings as needed.
* Train Your Team: Make sure your team knows how to use Jira and understands any differences from Zoho.

7. Optional: Use a Migration Tool or Service

There are third-party tools and services that can help automate parts of this process. Some tools are designed specifically for migrating from one project management tool to another and may handle data mapping and conversion more smoothly.

Hi @Anubrata Koley I found this recent community article referring to the same thing.  It talks about importing issues from a CSV file and other steps.
