Pull Request stuck merging

tried a couple of times to merge a pull request a very simple change, but it just seems to spin after pressing merge in the bitbucket pull request page just get the following message

Merge in progress

This pull request is being merged in the background. You can safely navigate away. The status of the pull request will be updated once it is merged.

We have identified an issue that was causing slowness on Pull Request for some customers, and our engineering team already deployed a fix, so the Pull requests should be loading normally again.
