Seems like this is currently not possible. Check the API calls that can be made in JIRA Agile at https://jira.atlassian.com/plugins/servlet/restbrowser#/resource/greenhopper-1-0-sprint-sprintid-start
Also, I'd warn that those are PRIVATE REST Calls, so they can be changed at any time.
