Can't connect to old bitbucket username

Question

I tried to pull the data from an old account but Atlassian thinks that account is gone. When I re-sign up with the previous email address, it tells me my username is already in use (which I hope it means my old repos are still available).

How do I link my email address back to my old username and repos so I can access my code there?

Hello @Clement Tse ,

The fact that you are being asked to create a new username means the email you are using does not have a Bitbucket account associated with it, so it's not the correct email.

You might try to log in with any other email you have, and if you don't remember the password, you can request a password reset.

In case you are not able to find the correct email, and if you still have a previous local clone of the repositories you want, you can create a new bitbucket account and push the repositories from your local to the newly created repos.

Unfortunately when I login, I'm asked to create a new username instead. As such, there are no workspaces available to me since I'm asked to create my first workspace as well. None of my past repositories are available.

I've actually tried logging in based on past Bitbucket emails but all of them require that I create an Atlassian account now even though I had previously done so.

I'm not sure what next steps there are because I'm now having to create whole new Atlassian accounts and concerned that past repositories will be orphaned. Any recommendations on how to approach this?

Hello @Clement Tse and welcome to the Community!

I see the email you used to post this question has access to two Bitbucket workspaces that have repositories within them. To check the repositories on those workspaces, you can navigate to bitbucket.org , click on your personal avatar and select the All workspaces options. This will list all the workspaces your account has access to, so you can click on each of the workspaces and view its repositories.

If none of those are the repositories you are looking for, then you are probably logging in with the wrong email address. We suggest trying the following steps to see if you can recall the correct email:

*  Check any alternate email addresses you may have used in the past.
*  Search for any confirmation or registration emails from Bitbucket in your inboxes, as these may contain the email address associated with your account.
* Consider any possible variations or misspellings of your email address that you might have used when creating the account.

Since the email is used to prove the ownership of an account, unfortunately, without the correct email address, there is not much we can do to help you recover your account.
