Board Configuration not loading with "First should not be null" message

Hi Atlassian support,

 

We have an issue accessing the board configuration. When I click the "configure" option below, the configuration page was blank. 

 

I tried to look up the endpoint of /rest/greenhopper/1.0/rapidviewconfig/editmodel.json as suggested here (Section of Diagnosis for Root Cause 4), and I got this "First should not be null" error in response. 

It is not clear to me as to what "First" means and what are the suggested steps to debug this error. Could you provide any advice, please?

In case anyone comes across this post with a similar error:

Becky and I discovered a ScriptRunner script was listening to the issue update event and attempting to update issues after they were deleted. This caused Jira's ORM library to reinsert the issue ID back into the database, with all other columns null. This caused errors to occur while executing searches and loading boards. The problem cleared after we disabled that script and removed the broken rows from the database.
