Removing prior admin from bitbucket

Hi Bitbucket Community,

I have recently given admin access into my organisation's bitbucket space, taking admin responsibilities from a colleague - this colleague created the org's workspace but his account was there only for admin purposes.

Since I've taken over the admin role we want to remove his account from the workspace. However we are getting the following error message during the removal process:

Unexpected token '<', "<!DOCTYPE "... is not valid JSON

What are missing here?

Checking for the email you have used to post this question, your bitbucket account currently has access to only one workspace which the masked name is c***_********a (I'm sharing it masked as this is public forum).

That workspace is a Personal workspace that is attached to a user account. In the past, when a Bitbucket account was created, bitbucket would also automatically create a Personal workspace attached to that account. This is not the case anymore, and workspaces are no longer automatically created for users. They need to be manually created and are not attached to an account anymore (see Difference between shared and personal workspaces).

While there's no feature to convert a personal workspace into a shared workspace, you have the option to create a new workspace and Transfer the repositories to this new shared workspace. This new workspace will be owned by any user that is part of the Administrator group.

So in this case, I would suggest creating a new workspace and transferring the repositories from the original workspace to the newly created workspace.

If you want to use the same ID, you will first need to change the workspace ID of the original workspace to something else, like <current workspaceID>_old, so the original ID will be available to be used when you create a new workspace.

Hi Patrik,

in my case with same issue, only want delete my own old account.

I removed my old account from all groups, all products, any billing. All bitbucket repositories has new admins. Nevertheless, when trying deleting my old unused account, I get the warning that all 16 repositories will be deleted, too. I do not know what repositories that are.. probably also the one that are still used under other admin users.

Any approach please how to remove my old account without exposing the risk to delete my active repos?

Hey @Dejf ,

In Bitbucket Cloud, repositories belongs to workspaces, and in your case, you're the owner of that personal workspace, so if you delete that workspace, the repositories will be gone as well.

If you want to transfer those repositories to someone else, you'd have to ask the user to create a new workspace (if they don't have any), and then you can transfer the 16 repositories from your personal workspace to this new workspace.
