Auto Assign Categories for each Project Created in JIRA Work Management

Question

Is there a way to auto assign a Category for each Project Created in JIRA Work Management? This would be based upon the department of that is creating that project. For instance, if the Training Department staff member creates a project in JWM, that project would be assigned under "Training Department" category.

How would Jira know the department of the person that created the project? Do you have that information in Jira?

You can create a Global rule (from Settings > System > Global Automation) with the Trigger for "Project Created".

If you have a method to identify the department of the user that created the project (triggered the rule) then I think you could use a Send Web Request action to invoke the Jira REST API to set the Project Category field.

Let us clarify terminology first.

In Jira there are Projects. Projects contain issues.

Jira Projects themselves can be assigned a Project Category in the Details section under Project Settings.

In Work Management Projects there is also a Category field that can be set for each Issue in the Project.

Given that, are you asking about automating the assignment of a Project Category to each Work Management project, or automating assignment of Category in Issues in a Work Management project?
