Hi,
We have a user requirement to generate report/gadget in dashboard where we can see the issues stuck in same status for long .Is there any way we can achieve this result.
Regards,Suma
Hi @Suma Kustagi
getting an issue's time in the current status is a common problem (you should find a couple of questions here), and unfortunately a tricky one.
If you want to filter all issues that have been in their status for longer than a particular duration, have a look at these examples, all involving the CHANGED operator:
https://mraddon.blog/2016/04/01/jira-jql-trick-filter-issues-based-on-transition-state-execution-date-in-jira/
There's also the
statusCategoryChangedDate
field in JQL, but as the name implies, if only captures status category changes, not status changes within the same status category. Depending on your exact use case, this may or may not be sufficient.
If you also want to view the exact time in status, there's a couple of other options that I can think of - however I haven't tried them myself, so perhaps someone else can lean in:
Lastly, there's a number of apps in the Atlassian Marketplace that allow surfacing the time in status, either through special custom fields, or through their own visualisations. As you may have heard, apps sales have been stopped for Jira Server - so you'll have way more options if you migrate to Data Center or Cloud. This being said, depending on the app, you may be able to work something out directly with the vendor. I myself happen to work on an app that shows the time in status and still can be added to Jira Server directly through us; I'll add more details below.
Hope this helps,
Best,Hannes
Hi @Suma Kustagi -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
You can do this with out-of-the-box features, using a JQL statement such as this one:
project = myProjectName AND NOT status CHANGED AFTER -5d AND statusCategory = "In Progress" ORDER BY key ASC
That would list the in-progress issues in your project which have not changed status in the last 5 days, which you can adjust to meet your needs.
Next, you could save that filter, and either:

Hello @Suma Kustagi
If you're ok with using third-party add-ons, you can try Time between Statuses developed by my SaaSJet team.
All you need is to set a necessary status as Start and Stop timers - and get the time in a particular status. Then you can export it as XLSX or CSV files for further analysis.
You can get a 30-day free trial version or just ask me a question if you have some.
HOpe it helps

As an alternative, you can try Status Time Reports app developed by our team. It mainly provides reports and gadgets based on how much time passed in each status.
Here is the online demo link, you can see it in action and try without installing the app.
If you are looking for a free solution, you can try the limited version Status Time Free.
Hope it helps.
Hello @Suma Kustagi ,
I will recommend Time in Status which is built by my team at OBSS. It is available for Jira Server, Cloud, and Data Center.
Time in Status mainly allows you to see how much time each issue spent on each status.
The two important features of our app that applies to your use case are:
Time in Status calculates its reports using already existing Jira issue histories so when you install the app, you don't need to add anything to your issue workflows and you can get reports on your past issues as well.
Time in Status reports can be accessed through its own reporting page, dashboard gadgets, and issue view screen tabs. All these options can provide both calculated data tables and charts.

Just to expand on the last point, this is how this would look in the app that my team is working on, JXL for Jira.
JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a number of so-called "smart columns" that aren't natively available, including the time since status changed.
As you can see above, you can sort and filter by the value, and also show it in different formats (like number of days, or number of hours). Once you've narrowed down your list of issues, you can work on your issues directly in JXL, trigger various operations in Jira, or export your issues with just one click.
As said above, apps can no longer be obtained via the Marketplace for Jira Server. However, JXL is still perfectly compatible: it's just that we need to generate a license for you. If the above looks interesting, just let me know and we'll happily start a free trial for you.
