Adding Issue to Kanban Board

I am new to Kanban, and I can't seem to figure out how to add an issue to my kanban board. I created a project, along with a testing board. However, I am unable to see the issues I created for the project on my kanban board, even after clearing all filters. When I go to the issue itself, and click "View on Board", it says "There are no boards which contain this issue.

How do you associate an issue with a board?

Hi Raymond,

When you create an issue, it is associated with an Issue Type. The Issue Type is then associated with a workflow, which contains statuses. The Issue will be placed in the first status of the workflow. That is usually the Backlog status.

These statuses are then mapped to columns on a board. So you should start by looking at the columns and how they are mapped to statuses. You can search for your issue by clicking in the search box in the top nav bar.

You do not add an issue to a board. Boards are a view of a set of issues, not a container for them. You have to make the issue be selected by a board.

Boards have a filter behind them which tells them (and their associated backlogs) where to look - some are a filter you can define (and you can make that really complex!), others work from a simple "Project = XYZ".

So, first, look to what your board is selecting. If you go into the config of a board and look at the general page, you should see the filter it is using (if you do not, then you are using a board that uses project = xyz). Why do your new issues not match the selection?

Second, exactly what @John Funk said - look at the status mappings.

Lastly, boards won't display issues that are finished with - in a Kanban board, that means they have been released or that they are in the last column of the board and have not been updated for a couple of weeks.

So my issue is a task, which I labeled as "in progress", however, it does not show up in my kanban board even after clearing up all the filters.

I even tried deleting all my filters in the kanban filter, and still nothing shows up.

When I go to the task itself, and click "View on Board," it states that "There are no boards which contain this issue."

Ok, so the issue is somehow not matching one of three things:

The board filter. I talked a lot about selection of issues, which comes back to "a board has to be looking for it"
Is it "done", so it doesn't get shown?
Is the board configured to show it?

A quick way to get this solved might be to show us a bit of raw data (without any analysis on your part)

The text of the board's main filter
The text of the board's sub-filter
A simple screenshot of the issue (just the fields that relate to the board filter, and status no matter what the filter is)
A shot of your column settings on the board
