Board member access to edit board rules/automations

Hey there,

Within my organisation, we have a lot of team based Trello boards that multiple people will be using at any given time.

One of the boards in question utilises a lot of custom rules and automations that from time to time need to be changed/updated temporarily (automatic emails being sent to different parties etc.).

When this occurs, even though I have multiple admins on a board, because I created the original 'rule'/'automation' then it is only I who can edit them, where it would be far more efficient if others within my team could edit them also.

Is there a way to provide permissions to other team members so they can edit my rules?

Hi @Andy Brownhill ,

You can add the automations (excluding card and board buttons) to a command library and then share that library with your admins to download and use. The below article should help you get started.

The notable limitation is that automations are tied to user accounts not to the board, so you are actually giving them a copy of the automations that they can download and modify, but modifications made on their copy will not automatically be reflected in your copy or other users copies, so it could get messy.

It's important to remember that Butler runs and takes action on a board on a person's behalf, which is why everything that Butler does shows in the activity log as being done by the user who set up the rules.

A team can share Butler rules that others team members create, but it can be a bit tricky. To be clear upfront, rules cannot be edited by a user other than the one who created it. So when sharing a rule, you're essentially sharing a copy of it that your team members can import and edit as their own, rather than your rule.
