Question

Do you know if it is possible to have a custom template for Description field in Jira?

What I think about is that it would be good to have a template instead of a blank field for Description field for new BUG issues.

Like, for instance:

* Problem description* situation should be described with precision.
* How/when do the problem occur?
* The issue must be reproducible in our internal databases. Ie either clear steps to reproduce or / and an example in the internal database must be provided. There can be an exceptional cases when the issue can be reproduced at customer only then this should be clearly stated.

* Current result* What is the erroneous result?

* Argumentation* Why do you think this result is erroneous? (Refer to if regression when compared with previous version, overall logic, link to specification, link to UM, link to other jira case, or just an explanation).

* Expected result

So that people could see sections/headers they have to fill in when reporting a bug.

We quite often miss different information, and in this way it would be much more difficult for the reporter to forget something.

Here's an example of what your form might look like:

You could use the "default answer" as a "template". However, as Jack hinted, this is not effective. I don't recommend it, I also don't think formatting is possible.

Hi Brian you can't create a template within a field. The whole purpose of creating a form in JSM is to gather specific info. The bold text in your post lens itself to custom fields that you would present to the customer and either make them optional or required. Of course this also could be done with a Form versus custom fields or a combination of that even.
