Hello,
Using the bitbucket API, I am trying to find the branch name that a commit is made. I thought following API will return the branch name but it doesn't.
Hi @Mani,
The branch where a commit was originally made isn't directly stored in Git.
You can use the following command in a clone of the repo to find all branches that contain a certain commit (but not necessarily the branch where this commit was created):
git branch --contains <commit_hash>
This will show branches whose tip commits are descendants of the named commit, meaning that you may see multiple branches for certain commits.E.g. if your repo has 50 branches, that command in the repo's initial commit will show all 50 branches.
Please see below the comment from one of our developers on why we don't include that info in the API:
Kind regards,Theodora
