We are running several Atlassian applications against a single MySQL server. We're seeing several thousand queries per second on a regular basis. In fact, the lowest count is 1200 q/s. It spikes at 3.7 q/s.
Breaking down the query log we have found that 62% of the total query traffic comes from 'Com_' queries, specifically: set, rollback, and commit commands.
All apps are tied into Crowd, which in turn is tied into our LDAP server. About 22,000 users are being synchronized from LDAP into Crowd, and subsequently into the other Atlassian apps (JIRA, Confluence, Fisheye, Bamboo).
From the graph of this behavior it seems to be associated with our 20-minute synchronization interval across the tools. It spikes for about that amount of time then settles back down to 1.2 Kq/s.
Is this normal behavior for the Atlassian tools? Does this metric affect performance of useful queries (like SELECT - 17% of the total query traffic)?
